Projects
The Association is actively involved in supporting the School in many ways: One-off Bursaries The Association has also donated money to the School to be used as one-off small scale Bursaries.
Past Projects
In the '80s and early 90's the Association presented the School with several projects, including full carpeting for the Library and drinking fountains. More recent projects are described below:
Upper Sixth Form Year Book
Since 1998 The Association has regularly funded an annual "Year Book" which is presented to members of the Upper Sixth Form at the end of their final term. The Year Book is printed and bound to a high standard and it is hoped that it will serve as a more permanent reminder to both the Pupils and the School of their careers at the Wells. The content of the Book is left almost entirely in the hands of the students themselves. Examples to date have been of a very high quality and very warmly received by the Upper Sixth Leavers. The Association has provided the School with a digital camera to help in the production of the annual year book.
Cricket Pitch Sight Screens and Pitch Rain Covers
We have purchased a pair of Sight Screens for the high class cricket pitch which is now in regular use on the Cedars Field, and have contributed towards rain covers for the same pitch.
Careers Centre
The Wellensian Association Careers Centre has been constructed at the rear of the Library.
Junior School Mosaic
The Junior School is celebrated its 50th Anniversary (in its present form/location) in 1998. As part of their plans for this event the children designed a large mosaic which is positioned in a prominent position in the garden of the Junior School in No.8 New Street. The mosaic is a celebration of the last 50 years and looks forward into the next 50 years; a renowned mosaic artist - Rosalind Wates - helped with the project. Parents, pupils and the Wellensian Association contributed to the cost of the project.
Quilter Memorial Garden
In the summer of 2000 the Wellensian Association unveiled the Quilter Memorial Garden at the top of the Cedar Lawns. The re-design of the ornamental gardens in that area was undertaken for us Nicholas Pearson (leaver of 1968) and was commissioned as a memorial to Alan Quilter (Head Master 1964-1986) and his wife Sheila, who both died in the 1990s.
Sixth Form Centre
With the aid of funds from the Wellensian Association the buildings opposite the Bursar's Office in the Stable Yard have been converted into an excellent Sixth Form Centre.
